In our daily work we continuously bank on the implementation of measures that will make it easier for our colleagues or minimize their risk of injury. The “reel repair aid” concept elaborated by our colleague Willi Dorstewitz has now received an honorary jury award in this year’s competition for the BGHW Prevention Prize.

As the jury writes in its explanatory statement: “Your entry has clearly demonstrated the great importance attached to occupational health and safety in your company. Your entry impressed the jury, prompting it to award an honorary prize of 500 euros to this contribution.”

The concept.

With OHAS on our minds as early as in the planning stages of the new reel workshop, the work aid has already been included in the construction planning. If in need of repair, the cable reels are lowered onto two rollers with the help of air cushions. The construction minimizes the risk of injury by providing the reels with greater stability, and reduces the effort required. This makes the work much safer, and less of a strain on people’s backs.

The effect.

The risk of injury could be markedly lowered. Feedback from the staff about the reduced physical effort is also positive throughout. The reduced workload has additionally helped to boost efficiency, with a significantly greater number of reels repaired in the same period of time now.

Our employees benefit from this aid. Up to 850 cable reels in all sizes from 1 – 2.8 m are processed here per month.

The idea behind it.

The occupational health and safety of our employees is an important topic at Faber and always has been, with prevention writ large.

Our self-conception and ambition as a responsible employer entails the provision of safe workplaces for our team. But quite apart from this, OHAS also helps the company save costs that could arise from sick leave, and assures the quality of our work. And this is something we have not only laid down in our Code of Conduct, but also live.

We are greatly delighted by this award.
